TikTok has introduced a major expansion of its subscription feature, allowing more creators to monetize their content by offering exclusive perks to paying subscribers. Originally launched in 2022 for TikTok Live creators, this feature is now available to Video on Demand (VOD) creators as well.
New monetization options
The expanded subscription service will enable creators to offer different levels of exclusive content to their most engaged followers. TikTok has introduced three pricing tiers that creators can choose from, allowing them to offer perks such as private chats, exclusive content and unique stickers or badges.
One standout feature is Sub Space, a private communication channel where subscribers can directly interact with creators. TikTok spokespersons have emphasized that creators can also offer personalized benefits, including performance requests, shout-outs and even gaming sessions with their followers.
Requirements for eligibility
Not every TikTok creator will be able to access these new monetization tools right away. TikTok has set eligibility criteria that include being at least 18 years old, having at least 10,000 followers, and reaching 100,000 video views in the past month. Accounts must also be in good standing.
TikTok said in a statement that the expanded feature will be rolling out to creators in select regions, including the U.S., U.K., Brazil and other countries, with plans to expand to even more markets in the coming weeks.
Boosting revenue and engagement
This expansion highlights TikTok’s desire to offer more monetization options, especially as short-form video content is typically harder to monetize. With this feature, TikTok hopes to strengthen creator-audience connections and encourage deeper engagement.
As one TikTok creator put it, “These exclusive perks really help to build a more personal relationship with my followers. It feels like I’m creating a special community.”
